The Slovenian Union of America
The Slovenian Union of America (formerly Slovenian Women's Union of America (SWUA)) was founded in 1926 as Slovenska ženska zveza Amerike, its original purpose was to advocate for the rights of Slovenian women in the United States. Currently the society preserves the traditions, language, and culture of their ancestors by means of scholarships, genealogical resources, events in the United States and Slovenia. In addition, membership includes subscription to Zarja (the Dawn) magazine which is one of the oldest, continuously published magazines in America.
The Twin Cities Slovenians make up Branch 109 of the SUA and like the SUA, both are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.
