The May membership meeting on Saturday May 21 will be in person at the New Brighton Community Center Room 224. Doors open at 9:15am. Treats and coffee will be available along with a few door prizes.
Norm Setnicker will present “To Bee or Not to Bee”
Slovenia is a globally renowned beekeeping country and in 2017 Slovenia initiated a resolution to the UN General Assembly to establish “World Bee Day. The initial day took place in May 20, 2018. Norm Setnicker’s slide power point presentation will include: Importance of the honey bee to the world; Slovenian education in Beekeeping; a brief history of beekeeping ; bee products coupled with “apitherapy” and examples of Slovenia’s unique folk art- bee front panels. In addition, the presentation will capture the importance of bees as pollinators for biodiversity and food security. The country has always been in the front ranks within the EU in regards to raising awareness of the importance of bees in lives of humans and our planet.
There will be a sing along honoring the Carniolan Bee “Sivka” – music from Lojza Slak. and a brief presentation from Norm’s cousin in Slovenia highlighting the bee farm in Polhov Gradec , Slovenia. Our members Deborah and Paul VanDenMeerendonk have raised honey bees and will be donating 30 containers of their honey to our membership.
