Welcome to the “New Normal” - whatever that is!
The Twin Cities Slovenians had the first seasonal meeting of our Board a few days ago where the prime topic was how we can deal with the current environment. The previous venue for our monthly meetings, the New Brighton Community Center, is closed for groups of our size until at least the new year. So what are the alternatives?
First of all, Slovenians are a tough bunch as proven in the centuries of wars and occupations even the Black Plague - and yet they kept their culture intact.
After some brainstorming, one area we are going explore initially is having our monthly meetings in the virtual world until we can return to more traditional environment. Following the lead of a lot of businesses, groups, and individuals, we are going to explore the wonderful world of “Zoom” virtual meetings. If unfamiliar with Zoom – ask the grand-kids! The test of this will be the regular September Membership Meeting which will include a travellog by Rick Steves.
From the participant’s standpoint, all that is needed a computer with speakers, a camera, and an internet connection. While a computer with a large screen is ideal even a smartphone or tablet will do the job. The software needed is free and actually loads itself in most cases – really!
