Slovenian-American filmmaker Joe Valencic will come from Cleveland to present an inspiring film that he co-wrote: 100% Slovenian: Slovenian Women in America. Joe will be happy to answer questions and share his thoughts. The Slovenian version of this film is available on Slovenian TV here. Most of the film is in English.
What does it mean to be Slovenian? Is it grandma’s strudel recipe, dancing the polka, teaching children Slovenian songs, or something deeper? Witty observations and moving stories create a memorable movie about real-life women and how they stay “100% Slovenian” when Slovenia is only a distant memory. Women in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York, Washington DC, and Chicago tell about the joys and challenges of expressing their identity.
Joe was recently honored with induction to the Cleveland International Hall of Fame for his valuable contributions to Cleveland and the surrounding region. Join us in congratulating Joe on this well-deserved honor.
The film presentation will be the highlight of our September membership meeting on Saturday September 17. This meeting will be in person at the New Brighton Community Center Room 224. Doors open at 9:15am. Treats and coffee will be available along with a few door prizes.
